How did you end up in the design industry?
I currently work for West Elm and have dealt with quite a few decorators and designers everyday. I’ve learned about their processes, what to do, and what not to do, and I figured out how I could elevate the experience by giving it my own twist.
What does your team look like?
Me, myself, and I. I started the business with a close personal friend, her name is Ashley and she’s the Ash in Ashton Interiors. She decided to take a backseat approach when she had a baby and wanted to grow her family. So while I’m the face of the business, I still collaborate with her on design decisions and she styles the spaces for our clients.
Tell us about the project you're sharing.
We call this project West Trail. This kitchen is a harmonious blend of elegance and casual comfort, designed to be both functional and inviting. The color palette is soft and airy, with creamy white cabinets complemented by a backsplash of subway tiles in a subtle, glossy pearl finish. The countertops are quartz with faint veining, offering a touch of sophistication while remaining low-maintenance for everyday use.
What was involved in this project?
We transformed this entire kitchen into our client’s dream kitchen by focusing on the details that reflected their needs and preferences. We customized the cabinetry design to maximize storage that included pull-out drawers, spice racks, and glass front cabinets the client could use for displaying their collections. I’m really proud of the lighting design in this space since its the perfect balance of ambient, task, and accent lighting that keeps the room well-lit and still inviting.
What's something you were really excited about creating for this project?
Selecting the right layout that would make this kitchen function for a busy family of four.
What was your biggest learning from this project?
I should have charged more on the initial scope of work. I hadn’t done such a large overhaul before this project so now I have a better idea of just how much work needs to be put in.
Is there a tool, tip, or business resource from Hot Young Designers Club that you use in your business?
Oh man, where to start?! From the initial Investment Guide to the Welcome Guide and especially the Budget Calculator, they all helped to make my business come across as polished and professional.
